Finding Pokémon cards in Panama is easier than it was a few years ago, but not every place offers the same level of trust. This guide sums up the options and what to check at each one.
Specialist hobby shops
Usually the first stop for collectors. They tend to get new releases, know the game and run events.
- Pros: a range of formats and people who know the hobby.
- Check: that the product is factory-sealed and prices are clearly displayed.
Toy and department stores
Some chains sell Pokémon TCG blisters, tins and boxes alongside other toys.
- Pros: easy to find while you run other errands.
- Check: the condition of the packaging. Heavily handled display product can arrive dented.
Communities and local tournaments
Player and collector groups are great for trading, learning and finding single cards.
- Pros: community and know-how.
- Check: when buying "sealed" product from another person, ask where it came from.
Buying online
You can buy from local sellers on social media or import from international stores.
- Pros: access to more products.
- Check: seller reputation, shipping and import costs, and delivery times.
Self-service machines (coming soon)
Card Vault PTY is building self-service trading card machines with genuine, sealed product, clear prices and contactless payment. The first Vault is planned for Market Plaza, Costa Verde, and is currently a pilot in development.
Checklist before you pay
- Is the factory seal intact?
- Is the price clear before you pay?
- Does the seller explain where the product comes from?
- Does the price make sense? If it's too low, be suspicious.
